Design Your Dream Home

Do you have the vision? Do you know exactly what you want and yet it's not there?

For many of you the answer is designing and building your dream house. Ok, you know you want to build, but what's next? Let's go over the simple steps which together with your agent you can turn your dreams into reality.

STEP 1

Make the decision to build. There's not tons of land around so you need to be cognizant of where it's possible and where it's not. Once you know you want to build, let's go to step 2.

STEP 2

Design your home. Were happy to introduce you to some fine architects who will sit down with you and plan the home of your dreams. Now is the time to think about what you want, how many rooms, bedrooms, baths, garages etc. The architect can add some of the fine details, but the more information you have about exactly, and I do mean exactly, as to what you want, the more productive your meeting will be and the less costly it will be, as well. Once you have plans for your dream home, we now need to build it so the next step will be to find some land and onto step 3

STEP 3

Finding the land can be a daunting task indeed! Work with your agent so you can put the right house in the right spot. If you come across new construction which is already in progress, using your plans may not work out depending on how far along the construction is. Do keep in mind that buying a "package" which is the land and a home means buying all of this from the builder. Very rarely will they sell you just the land because they want to make money off of the house, too! If you decide to buy a package, make sure you do your homework and check out the builder. Check them out with the better business bureau as well and find out if there have been any complaints with the state. Getting involved with the wrong builder can truly be a nightmare!

STEP 4

Once you have the land or package you are on your way! New construction is an involved process that requires you to be there. That means you watch the construction, ask questions, and, most importantly, work closely with your agent who will help guide you through the process. All contracts with the builder should be approved by your attorney. Hiring an attorney is an absolute necessity when building a home!
